Above all else, Reader-Oriented Criticism is the connection of what the content was composed to mean and how the watcher understands it, otherwise called content peruser connections. ââ¬Å"As such, peruser arranged analysis is to a great extent worried about ââ¬Å"potentialâ⬠rather than ââ¬Å"actualizedâ⬠implications of the content to an audienceâ⬠(Vande 331). The content throughs out signals on how they might want the content to be perused. There are two different ways that the content can be introduced: ââ¬Å"Open content welcomes you to see it in numerous understandings, while Closed content just gives you one view on the best way to interoperate itâ⬠(Dr. M. Camacho). Anyway inside Reader-Oriented Criticism content is constantly left open for the peruser to see and get it anyway they wish. When the watcher has begun ââ¬Å"to subliminally wonder how the story will go straightaway, entering the space of the show,â⬠then they have entered liminal space (Dr. We will compose a custom exposition test on Peruser Oriented Criticism or then again any comparable subject explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page M. Camacho). Each TV show has its own little suggested implications which is the thing that the inferred creator needs the suggested watcher to subliminally get. From the asking of Friday Night Lights you can tell that the entire town is about football and Christian confidence, who is additionally the suggested creator. The executive welcome you into liminal space toward the start through the consistent developments and edge changes of the cameras making the suggested watcher see that the inferred creator, again the town, is about football. So the entire town, yet the entire show is about football, that even you, the genuine watcher, is nearby the remainder of the town sitting tight for the following game. In this manner the suggested vier would be every individual players in the group, discovering that the entire town is watching them and anticipating that them should show that football and god are at a similar level. All through the show it continues welcoming you in to consider it to be on the off chance that you are entirely the game: the entire lighting of the show is all normal with numerous shadows, similar to it is the point at which the flood lights are on in the game. At the point when the game really starts the sound of everything fades away to a murmur, the groups cheering, the love seats hollering, the firecrackers up over head, can all grain be heard. Anyway each and every snort and crush would ring through the speakers as though it was ringing however youre own ears, by and by putting you on that field, giving and taking those blows. When the game is done the group stops and asks advising you that god is similarly as significant as football and that we wouldnt be here today with this triumph without him. These are for the most part instances of ways that the Friday Night Lights was composed and intended to take anybody, even somebody that doesnt care for sports to sit as eager and anxious as ever before the finish of the scene hanging tight for that touchdown and cheer when ball gets passed that last line. Those trying to abstain from alcohol are warned against the use of non-alcoholic beer; now there may be scientific evidence to support the admonition. There are many different reasons why people decide not to try the so-called non-alcoholic beer if they wanted to remain sober. Avoiding temptation is the reason most often offered. Other than the fact that all NA beer does contain a small amount of alcohol, there is now a new study out that seems to support the theory that it can cause a relapse for recovering alcoholics. How Even the Smell of Beer Can Be Enough to Trigger Cravings In one research study, a team of California scientists reports that smell may be enough to trigger cravings and a subsequent relapse among certain alcoholics.?? In their laboratory experiments, rats were trained to self-administer alcohol or a bitter, white substance called quinine when they smelled either orange or banana. The smell of banana was used when the rats consumed alcohol, while the smell of orange was presented to them when the rats tasted quinine. Both alcohol and the anticipation of alcohol may raise levels of a brain chemical called dopamine, which plays a role in feelings of elation and pleasure, according to the investigators. The researchers found increases in dopamine in the rats brains before and after smelling these alcohol-related cues. Same Attitude and Behavior One danger is developing the same attitudes and behavior while drinking NA beer as you used to do when drinking the real stuff. This finding could help explain that phenomenon. The California study has been cited by scientists as an important step in the possible development of medications that may prevent relapse. As many as 90% of alcoholics will experience one relapse in the four years after they quit drinking, according to statistics from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.?? Stay Away From Non-Alcoholic Beer If You Want to Remain Sober Dr. Friedbert Weiss from The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, said, This is our studys significance: it provides a reliable tool that allows us to investigate brain mechanisms and neurochemical systems so that we can embark on a more educated approach to finding effective medications. In the meantime, the best advice for those trying to remain sober would be to stay away from anything that even smells like alcohol. Develop a Drug-Free Lifestyle to Avoid Relapse One of the ways that recovery experts recommend to avoid relapse and maintain sobriety is to develop a drug-free lifestyle in which the person trying to stay sober substitutes healthy activities for behaviors from the past. Many people in recovery find that they need to make new nondrinking friends and not hang out with their old drinking buddies if they want to stay sober. Sitting around drinking near beer with the same people in the same places you used to drink, is maintaining your old lifestyle, not developing a new one. I tell people to avoid the so-called non-alcoholic beer like the plague, one long-time support-group member told Verywell. First, it is not truly non-alcoholic, it does contain a small amount of alcohol which alone could trigger a relapse for some. Secondly, its like playing with fire, he said. Sooner or later you are going to get burned. There is a saying, if you hang around the barbershop long enough, sooner or later you are going to get a haircut. The same is true for near beer. Ive seen it happen too many times. The bird-of paradise pattern was gaudy on her aloha shirt, the thong sandals looked slovenly on her feet, and on her head, riding the loose curls, was perched a big hibiscus flower. Her hands were tightly fisted in the pockets of her old jeans as she listened to the older woman seated before the passport clerkââ¬â¢s desk. She looked at the woman, then at the clerk, with one eyebrow slightly raised. Too many movies, the clerk thought amusedly as he listened to the older woman talk. Perhaps a man with some education, for it was plain that the woman had schooling. He noted the sureness of the handwriting on the application form. There are many types of abuse reported as well. Even though there are many reports there are also many cases that are not reported. We will write a custom essay sample on Abuse in Nursing Homes ââ¬â Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now Elderly being abused puts them in an even more vulnerable position that what they were in. They now have to fear for their lives from the people who should be taking care of them. With reported cases and non-reported cases the abuser is rarely punished which makes the situation much worse. Elder abuse in nursing homes has grown at an alarming rate and not being reported and I firmly believe that the punishment should be increased for these abusers such as licenses being pulled and state stepping in more to investigate. There are many different types of abuse towards elders. Types of abuse are neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and many more. There are more than an estimated 2. 1 million reports of abuse each year as found in the studies of American Psychological Association, 2011. Elderly abuse is often times overlooked especially when there is bruising of the skin. The elderly are frail and the bruises are often mistaken for normal care on a frail individual which can happen. M. Lachs and K. Pillemer, also studied the same abuse issues and reported that many physicians were un-familiar with the mandatory reporting of abuse. In fact many physicians could not identify a case of elder abuse (1995-2006). Neglect is one of the most common reports of abuse in nursing homes. Neglect occurs when a caregiver fails to take care of a patient the way they should. In example, a caregiver does not change an elderly person every two hours. Instead the elder is only changed every 4 hours. This can cause bed sores. Bed sores break down the skin and when urine and feces enter the wound the patient can become ill and even die. Another type of abuse is physical abuse. Physical abuse occurs when a care giver hits a patient. Physical abuse towards the elderly can have grave consequences as well. The elder are very fragile and when hit can easily cause broken bones and even death. It is very hard for the elderly to recover because they are so fragile. Many physicians do not recognize the signs of abuse. The injuries are often mistaken for common issues with fragile elder patients. This means most cases of abuse are not reported and the abuser continues the acts. For cases that are reported the abuse usually is not punished in a meaningful way. Usually the abuser gets a slap on the wrist and in worst case scenario fired from the job just to go to another job and do the same thing. If the state would come in to the nursing homes more often or even a regular weekly basis to inspect. The state has a larger impact than expected and could put the situation under control. The abusers should have their certifications and licenses revoked and should not be able to continue their work. Doing this would leave the patients with care givers who actually care and want to do the job correctly. There are many, many reports every year on abuse in nursing homes. The reports to not even come close to the actual number of cases since not all are reported. Abuse in nursing homes is a very serious matter and should be treated as such. The elderly deserve respect and great care. They have lived a long life and should not have to end it in tragedy. He grew up in Krakow, the son of a Jewish cobbler father and Silesian mother. He learned his fathers trade and dreamed of one day leaving Poland and immigratingji to America where free speech was guaranteed any great things were taking place. At university he studied logic and jurisprudence. In 1939 he was abruptly taken from his home in Krakow when the Nazis occupied Poland. The Nazis rounded up large groups of Poles, and forced Polish Jews to wear a yellow Star of David on their clothing plainly proclaiming, or rather crudely labeling them Jude or Jew. Wearing his own star Klinghofer found himself in a packed box car bound for God knows where. Buchenwald camp was a site where prisoners were forced to work producing buttons, shoes and textiles. The camp was overseen by German SS officers and was frequently used by the Gestapo for torturing prisoners. Some time after Klinghofers arrival, but no sooner than he was able to cement his reputation as a highly skilled and productive worker, the camp was visited by one of the most feared Nazis, Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich had inspected the camp closely. As he walked the rows of prisoners lined up at the barbed wire fence at the perimeter of the common yard he came face to face with Klinghoffer. As a skilled bootmaker, and his reputation in the camp beamed from him, Klinghoffer was promoted by Heydrich to foreman of the boot factory workers, due to praise lavished upon him by his Nazi captors who had daily witnessed the production of finely crafter leather boots for German officers. Praise was rarely given to prisoners but the product of Klinghofers toils was valued by the SS, and the skilled young boot Artist in the camp was widely spoken of. The truth is, as a hiring manager you may be meeting certain predetermined targets that certainly look good, but are you crushing it where it really matters- namely, the quality of your hires? Sure, on the surface you can be meeting your companyââ¬â¢s staffing needs and finding quality candidates for all open positions, but how do you know if they- and you by association- are adding real value to the organization?According to a recent article by Workable, ââ¬Å"Quality of hire (QoH) measures the value new hires bring to a companyâ⬠¦ In this context, ââ¬Ëvalueââ¬â¢ usually means how much a new hire contributes to their companyââ¬â¢s long-term success by completing tasks, improving their work and helping othersâ⬠¦ Unsurprisingly, quality of hire is at the top of the list of useful performance KPIs. According toà LinkedInââ¬â¢s 2016 global trends report, itââ¬â ¢s a priority for 40% of big companies worldwide (and 45% of small businesses). Efficiency recruiting metrics, likeà time to fillà andà time to hire,à are trending up, but there are obvious reasons for why quality of hire is still so importantâ⬠¦ Quality of hire is what makes the recruiting process worthwhile.â⬠Okay, so itââ¬â¢s clear that quality of hire is important, but how can it be measured effectively? The truth is, it isnââ¬â¢t such an easy thing to quantify. You can really only measure QoH after a hire has been working for at least a few months- if not more.à And, in general, ââ¬Å"qualityâ⬠is a vague term thatââ¬â¢s hard to define. The Society for Human Resource Management recently published an article that referred to quality of hire as the elusive Holy Grail of recruiting. According to the article,ââ¬Å"Quality-of-hire metrics are critical to understanding the effectiveness of your companyââ¬â¢s hiring process but, for many, figurin g out how to define the measurement is a challenge.â⬠So, now you know that quality of hire is a critical recruitment metric and that it can be a very tricky thing to measure- but that shouldnââ¬â¢t inspire you to ignore it. Use the following strategies to measure QoH in your organizationââ¬â¢s recruitment efforts, to help you get a firm handle on whether or not youââ¬â¢re contributing meaningfully to your companyââ¬â¢s bottom line.MetricsWhen youââ¬â¢re ready to get serious about measuring QoH, youââ¬â¢ll need to determine which metrics youââ¬â¢re going to use. Many organizations, including LinkedIn, recommend using the following measures when assessing QoH:hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});Retention: How long are new hires staying at your company?Time to fill: How long does it take you to fill an open job position?Hiring satisfaction: How satisfied are hiring managers and key management personnel with a new hire? This can be measured on a predetermined numerical scale.Time to productivity: How long does it take for a new employee to get up-to-speed on all aspects of the job?Job performance: This oneââ¬â¢s obvious- how effective is your new hire in the position? Typically, this can be measured by your companyââ¬â¢s existing performance review/ratings process (assuming there is a process in place).Employee engagement: The flipside of job performance- is your new hire happy with the position and company?Cultural fit: A 360-degree measure of how well your new hire is acclimating to the new environment, team, and colleagues.Data collectionOnce youââ¬â¢ve determined the performance metrics that will be used to measure your QoH, you need to determine the best approach for data collection. Some statistics are quantifiable and easy enough to collect- turnover of employees, retention rates, and the meeting of sales goals by employees are simple numerical data that make sense. But, other calculations c an be less transparent. Your job will then be to track information about new hires via surveys. Fold them into your companyââ¬â¢s systems from the start.Workable has a list of great surveys to implement into your systems, including:Hiring manager satisfaction surveys (focusing on the recruitment process)Surveys asking managers to rate a new hireââ¬â¢s performance (e.g. 6- and 9-month performance surveys)Employee engagement surveysà for new hires360 surveys asking managers, peers and team members about a new hireââ¬â¢sà culture fità and performanceSurveys asking hired or rejected candidates to give feedback on the hiring processâ⬠MeasuresQoH can be measured in different ways. You can use the above-mentioned metrics to run a QoH assessment for each individual new employee, or you can create aggregate or average scores, which can span things like departments or various hiring timeframes. It all depends on what youââ¬â¢re interested in analyzing (i.e., per-hire Qo H vs. QoH trends across teams and over time, etc.). QoH measures can also be made in increments- for example, a new hireââ¬â¢s score can be measured at 6 months, a year, and 2 years from their start date.Once you decide to make QoH assessment a priority in your organization and have your metrics and data collection processes in place, you can analyze and manipulate the data in countless ways, depending upon your companyââ¬â¢s needs, and once you incorporate QoH into your recruitment performance metrics you can count on seeing tangible benefits- both to your institution and to its new hires. Good luck! In addition, the organizations in global marketplace are trying to implement workplace diversity process as this process can result in collaborative performance of the people of different caste and culture. Employee motivation is the key growth driver for an organization (Bruce, 2006). Lack of motivation and encouragement can affect the performance level of a skilled and efficient employee. Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs theory can be applied to determine different stages of human needs. There are five stages in this model, such as physiological needs, safety and security needs, social needs, self-esteem and self-actualization. People always try to satisfy their basis needs, such as need for food, clothes and shelter. These needs are considered as the physiological needs (Landy & Conte, 2009). Safety and security need is the second stage of this model. Under this stage, an individ ual tries to secure their job, health and neighboring associates. Social need is the third stage in this Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs theory. Individuals try to achieve social recognition within this stage. In terms of a workplace, an employee tries to achieve social recognition from their sub-ordinates and colleagues. ... It can enhance the performance of the employees. Topic 3 In terms of workplace motivation, Herzbergââ¬â¢s Satisfiers and Dissatisfiesââ¬â¢ theory can be applied. According to Frederic Herzberg, the individual needs of a people should be satisfied within an organization. Effective job and individual needs satisfaction can result in significant organizational productivity. According to this theory, there are two influences or degrees that can affect the level of perception of an individual within the workplace of a company. Motivators or satisfiers and hygiene factors or dissatisfiers are considered as specific influences. Nature of work is an important motivation driver. Several positive aspects can fulfill the job satisfaction of an employee (Wood, Zeffane, Fromholtz, Wiesner, Morrison & Seet, 2013). Achievement of career objectives, social recognition within workplace, job promotion, potential opportunity for individual development within organization and level of responsibili ty are considered as the motivating factors that can enhance the efficiency and performance level of an employee. On the other hand, several hygiene or dissatisfiers factors can upset employees. It has several negative consequences on the business productivity of an organization. Inadequate workplace environment, poor developed policy and unjustified salary distribution can be considered as the dissatisfiers factors. Poor organizational policy can affect the motivation and performance level of an employee (Baldonado, 2008). Needless paperwork or bureaucracy within an organization can be considered as a major barrier for a particular assigned job. In addition, poor workplace environment or employee discrimination can create several workplace conflicts. Representation allows us not only to learn, comprehend and convey factual meanings of things in the realistic world, but also create and share new concepts, ideas, images and concepts. That is why, novel and art are recognized as the fundamental platforms of representation (Anon, n.d.). ââ¬Å"The art of children is not a vehicle for the greatest expression of the human mind, but within its limits it offers a rare perfection of feeling and expressionâ⬠(Freeman, 2011). Representation matters because things derive their meanings through this. For example, womenââ¬â¢s seats in a countryââ¬â¢s National Assembly represent the fact that the country equally respects the views of all people. Not all countries allow the women to voice their opinions on public forums. Representation requires a system to deliver its meaning. Like in the above example, representation of women was determined in the political system of a country. Language plays the most important role in enabling and facilitating representation. Words and phrases like ââ¬Å"likeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"asâ⬠, ââ¬Å"similar toâ⬠, ââ¬Å"just asâ⬠, ââ¬Å"exactlyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"alikeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"compared toâ⬠, ââ¬Å"for exampleâ⬠are all vital for the languageââ¬â¢s role as an enabler of representation. We use the word ââ¬Å"likeâ⬠to refer to one thing to convey the meaning of another. Likewise, in everyday language, we frequently give examples to convey the true sense of a thing as we want the other person to understand. Examples are used to help an individual understand a new concept from the one he/she is already familiar with. People tend to idealize others that act, serve or behave in a particular way that they themselves want to, but are not equipped with the required abilities. Parents serve as an example for their children. Children are not sure what is right or wrong. Fascination with fire, the uncontrollable impulse to start fires, has been circulating in my blood from the first day I was born. Smelting heat and flames would spark my attention no matter what my surroundings. Candle lit dinner tables, switch flick colorful lighters, lit cigarette butts and burning matches. Oh matches! How I love them. The smell of gasoline has always been a heavenly scent, burning paper and bonfire parties are two of my other favorites. Smokey haze has always soothed me. One crisp October afternoon, however, that soothing smoky haze turned against me. I was fourteen years old, my parents were not home but my partner-in-crime, Anne, was by my side. Anne was my best friend throughout my childhood years, we did everything together. On weekdays after school, Anne and I headed to my house to be greeted by my comforting living room for our ritual TV session. Saved by the Bell was our preferred program. With the TV blaring in the background, we scattered our homework about the floor as if we had been studying, just in case my mom showed up unexpectedly. We left behind stained crumpled napkins, half eaten snacks and soda cans with few sips drawn from the lip, as we began the hunt for after school excitement. Suddenly, an idea mazed through my intricate thought process until it burst. The explosion erupted and excitement swam through my bones, in and out of every limb and muscle. I jumped, ââ¬Å"letââ¬â¢s light something on fire in the garage.â⬠It would be safer outside of my house, I thought (no one will see us). My garage contained two small tinted windows, so that no one could peer inside, no one could catch us in the act of the crime. Anneââ¬â¢s face lit up with excitement as she said, ââ¬Å"Ok, Iââ¬â¢ll grab the toilet paper and napkins, you grab some writing paper.â⬠Our plan was set. We scurried to the garage, carrying paper and other ââ¬Å"burnables.â⬠Matches were always better than lighters for experiments such as these. For our first experiment, we ignited napkins and paper, but the excitement quickly fizzled. Having lost our initial adrenalin rush, we began to search for more dangerous ââ¬Å"flammables. The title of my speech is ââ¬ËSocial ills among teenagers'. A lot has been said about the deviant behavior of teenagers. Our education system, the media, teenagers themselves and their parents have been blamed. here is no need to point an accusing finger at any particular group, but keeping mum over the issue is tantamount to condoning it. Our youths are our most valuable assets. They are the future leaders of the nation. The harm has already been done and it is now up to us to undo it.One of the main reasons why our youths go astray may be the lack of parental supervision. Nowadays, both parents go out to work. Children are left in the care of foreign maids and child-minders. As a result, they are faced with the threat of the disintegration of the family values and thus, the rising trend in social ills and crimes among teenagers. Parents should closely monitor the activities of their children and be understanding . When parents are often too busy pursuing their own careers to spare some thought for the welfare of their children, children grow up with little religious or moral guidance. When they do not get love and attention at home, they seek attention from others who may or may not come from similar backgrounds. Thus, the social ills affecting our youth may be a reflection of a much larger problem, such as the disintegration of the family unit. Ladies and gentlemen, the media may also play a part in the moral degradation among teenagers. Television programs which show violence and sex and glorify other negative aspects should be restricted. There should also be stricter enforcement of the ban on pornographic material. Teenagers with little or nothing to do during their spare time usually take to the streets. Therefore, recreational facilities such as those found in sports complexes should be available to all youths. at present, existing recreational facilities seem to either be exclusively f or the rich or for older people. the establishment of teen clubs and community centers, that do not charge high fees and that specially target teenagers, should be given top priority. In conclusion, ladies and gentlemen, everyone, including religious, educational and social institutions, as well as individuals and the media, must cooperate with the authorities to combat the social ills afflicting our teenagers. It is important that people, especially youths, do not get into the rut of moral decay. There should be a thorough study of the problem before a proper strategy can be mapped out to channel our youths towards healthier lifestyles. Thank you for your kind attention and have a nice day. Their tortures are extreme versions of their sins on earth. Dante imparts his own moral standards to the reader by portraying a hierarchy of evil that corresponds with his disapproval of the sin. As the pair of observers descends farther and farther into the pits of Hell, the punishments they see grow less and less bearable. While the evil in the first layers of Hell is simple, sometimes invoking pity in Dante, the lower levels of Hell punish souls for more complex and condemnable sins. It would be interesting to see a system of political justice based upon Dantes values.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The fourth circle of upper hell contains the hoarders and the spendthrifts, whose wills were too weak in life to manage their assets. Aware only of their own needs on earth, they each work towards their own goal in Hell, pushing a ro ck. They are forced, however to cope with like-minded souls and collide rather than cooperating, which results in eternal frustration. Every indulgent soul in upper hell is punished according to his own personality. There are no demons to force them to do anything. They bring the punishment on themselves by eternally acting out a version of their sin. After passing through the City of Dis, Virgil and Dante enter Nether Hell, where violent and heretical sinners are punished. Dante portrays these sins of corrupt will as more evil and deserving of worse punishment than the weak-willed sins of upper hell. Souls who, during life, were violent against their neighbors boiled in a river of blood. Suicide cases are trapped in the form of trees, unable to scream unless gauged by horrible birds. The violent against God are sprawled face-up on burning sand, eternally confronting the proclaimed enemy. Even within an individual circle, some sinners are punished more than others. Among the violent against God, Capaneus is more severely punished than his peers because of his pride. President John F Kennedy was masterful at this skill and the words he spoke and the dreams he invited us to share are as powerful today as they ever were. Our cultural memory of John F. Spanking can be defined as the use of physical force aimed at causing children to experience pain but not injury, for the purposes of correction and control of youthful behavior(http://www.123helpme.com/preview.asp?id=32539). Spanking is a controversial topic and should not be taken lightly. As a child I was spanked when I did something wrong. My parents never left a mark on me what so ever. The study shows that younger mothers spank much more frequently than older mothers; that younger children are spanked more than older children. The same study also says that higher levels of socioeconomic status are associated with the decreases in spanking. This study does not surprise me younger parents with less money undergo much more stress than older parents therefore they are more easily irritated by their children. Also spanking decreases as the parents age increases this could be because the parent is less motivated. The childs personality directly influences the parents ability to punish a child. Some children will only respond to physical punishment and others will respond to verbal punishment. If you spank your child there are eight steps to follow. We will write a custom essay sample on Leningrad Cemetry, Winter of 1941 or any similar topic only for you Order Now 01. 18) in winter of 1941. Leningrad which is now St. Petersburg is once former capital of Russia and Russian Revolution so it was strategically important place for Hitler to have war with. German army siege this city almost 900 days and over 650,000 people are dead from this war because of starvation, exposure, disease and so on. However, Leningrad did not surrender against the enemy and bear all hardships and difficulties, later called ââ¬Ëcity of heroââ¬â¢. How extremely difficult and severe situation it was in World war ? is depicted in this poem. There are a lot of dead bodies needed to be buried but impossible because ground is frozen and grave digger became weak from hunger. Also coffin could not be made because there was lack of fuel to heat and wood should be used for fuel. Instead of coffin they put the corpse on the childââ¬â¢s sled and take it to the cemetery. Child sled is the symbol of joy and happiness in winter snow but in the war time that kind of joy is disappeared but only degenerated to tool of moving the dead body. There are some analogies with the dead. First they are metaphored as ââ¬Ëtreeââ¬â¢s ball of roots when it waits to be plantedââ¬â¢ and cocoons that will split down the center when the new life inside is preparedââ¬â¢. Those are very similar to appearance of the dead and characteristics such as stiffness however it also contains the meaning of life and prosperity. In contrast, the expression of ââ¬Ëpale gauze, tapered shapesââ¬â¢ make us think of mummies. Writer tried to mummify and dehumanize the dead. Furthermore, ââ¬Ënaked calves hard as corded wood spillingââ¬â¢ means piled corpses like stiff, dry wood with no life. Contrast in the metaphors tells us that the dead once having had vibrant life and had desire to restore vitality inevitably became very cold, rigid, abandoned dead body. ââ¬ËFrom under a cloak, a hand reaching outââ¬â¢ means that they are not ready to die and want to live more. Speaker of this poem is third person narrator so hard to know the deadââ¬â¢s mind exactly however we could analogize their thoughts on their death. They would want to come back to life even if they have to eat the bread made of glue and sawdust and live in the severe cold and siege. ââ¬ËBread made of glue and sawdustââ¬â¢ is nonsense but it means stale bread that is so dry and hard to eat. Narrator says having a life is better than death even if it becomes hard or difficult. It shows us that they really didnââ¬â¢t want to die in the war and life is so precious itself. It is composed of only one stanza. It makes reader to be focused on the situation that writer explain with tension. Omniscient third person narrator speaks in the poem so we could not hear their direct voice but relying on what speaker says. Thesedays, there are still many threats on war outbreaks but as a generation not experiencing war yet, we have tendency to consider war as relatively light event and are not so alert or worrying compared to old generation. This poem reminds us with extreme hardships stealing a lot of innocent peopleââ¬â¢s lives that war can bear and arouse our attention again on the war. Answer: Introduction AS 4000 is an essential guideline, Australian standard for contractors that provides general conditions for contracts. The current assignment highlights relevant AS 4000 clauses and processes by which contracts changes. Appropriate conditions relevant to work quality have also been cited using clauses and sections of AS 4000. Handling of additional works and correcting relevant anomalies through geotechnical information provided for tenderers are also cited as per AS 4000 clauses. Finally, the clauses have been discussed that is applied in scenarios when contractors proceed for submission of claims and seeks compensation. On the other hand, if the contractor requires any change, he is liable to write a notice regarding subsequent changes and representative name and present to the superintendent. Sub clause 29.1 regarding quality of work and materials states the use of suitable new materials and tradesman like as well as proper workmanship. It should be maintained unless specified by the contractor. Sub clause 29.2 regarding quality assurances of any contract works provides guidelines for circumstances where further quality assurance is required. It directs the contractors to establish, plan and ensure proper maintenance for conforming the total system of quality. Contractors should also ensure that superintendent has a complete access to system of quality for contractors as well as subcontractors that help them to ensure sufficient auditing quality and monitoring. The sub clause further guides that such system of quality must be used as an aiding guide for achieving contract compliance and for documenting the compliances. Any kind of discharge regarding contractors different obligations under contractors should not be executed under the system. According to sub clause 29.3 of defective work, during any identification of materials by superintendent provided by the contractor that does not comply with contract and is of insufficient quality, the superintendent might ask the contractor to rectify it. If further no rectification is done, the contractor might be liable to remove the material from site, demolish and destroy the work, needs to reconstruct or replace the work and not deliver to site. During circumstances when valuable minerals, articles, fossils, objects of antiquity, treasure trove, coins and articles of value, archaeological interest are found at site shall be subjected as a property of the principal between the parties. As soon as the valuable article is found, contractors should take adequate precautions, prevent removal, loss or damage, and provide the superintendent a written notice regarding the discovery. As per Clause 25 latent conditions, sub clause 25.1 highlights the latent conditions of artificial things excluding weather conditions, differing materially from conditions physically and have anticipated written information that are made available through principal to contractors for tendering purpose. Sub clause 25.2 notification states that a contractor after being aware of latent conditions during carrying out work under contract should provide a written notice to the superintendent or a written statement including the latent condition encountered, additional work such as time, cost and resources as well as other details, which are required reasonably by superintendent. People hear about the media blaming everything as a part of todays violence in schools. The media blames different groups of people, as a part of todays violence in the schools. The incident at Columbine was a freak act of violence, and there are hardly any children that would have anything to do with violence of this nature. The media thinks there may be someone to blame for why kids turn to violence. They blame TV, movies, music, and even athletes. The media could blame parents. The media blames high school athletes for the violence in schools. For many youth, their role models are athletes, but for others, athletes are their worst nightmares. In my high school, athletics was everything. Many of the athletes would pick on the little guys or under class men. The athletes at my school were bullies, but to my knowledge no one wanted to come in and shoot an athlete. How many students go into schools and just start shooting and being violent. Most students of today do not promote that type of violence. In fact, many athletes of all levels inspire youth to do better in school, to work as a team, and to try harder to give their all. Some examples of professional athletes that inspire youth are Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, and Chamique Holdsclaw. They all encourage youth to do their best. And since Athletes encourage positive actions and do not promote violence, athletes should not be the ones to blame. There are evident influences from synthesised bands such as Aphex Twin, Talking Heads and jazz artists such as Charles Mingus and Miles Davis. Some songs, particularly ââ¬ËHow to Disappearââ¬â¢, contain heavy classical influences. ââ¬ËMotion Picture Soundtrackââ¬â¢ is a particular example of the bandââ¬â¢s new direction, and experimenting with minimal sound yet varied instruments, as well as new and old styles. The albumââ¬â¢s style is certainly a new direction from the bandââ¬â¢s older albums, and it perhaps symbolises the bandââ¬â¢s injection of personal influences into their musical style. Concepts Behind the Album Radiohead experimented with the music of Kid A, and its comparison to earlier albums s hows a distinct move from their usual ââ¬Ëalternative rockââ¬â¢ style to a more electronic music style (Gilbert). For this album, Radiohead experimented with a broader range of musical instruments; a rather different approach compared to their previous focus on the use of guitars. Radiohead incorporated the use of keyboards, brass and strings ââ¬â a depiction of their classical music and jazz influences. The music contains less use of lyrics than previous albums, and the lyrics that the band does use are more conceptual and theoretical than the lyrics they had created before. Many described Kid A as an evolution of the band: ââ¬Å"their core sound had changedâ⬠(Koehler 193). Perhaps the success of Kid A is owed to its new sound; the inability to slot it into any one musical genre, as Kaye claims: ââ¬Å"the album is a motley painting of many types of music, mixed and bended in playful and satirical ways, that cannot be boxed into any neat compartment (sic)â⬠(241). Perhaps the most prominent feature of Kid Aââ¬â¢s music style is Yorkeââ¬â¢s adamant departure from rock; he claimed ââ¬Å"I never wanted to be in a...rock groupâ⬠(Lin 32). One can hear the bandââ¬â¢s avoidance of producing yet another ââ¬Ëalternative rockââ¬â¢ album, and the experimentation they undertook, although it is mainly synthesised and electronic, cannot be particularly classed as any single genre. It seems that the band achieved this goal very successfully. Tension Among the Band Led to this Album The problems faced by the band, particularly Thom York e leading up to and during the creation of the album are certainly not few and far between. There was not only tension in the band, but Yorke had begun to feel alienated from the fast paced life of the rest of the world, as well as feeling that his music had become mainstream and unimportant (ââ¬ËMeeting People is Easyââ¬â¢). Yorke shunned media attention which had been created as a result of Radioheadââ¬â¢s success, and the exhausted band almost split up before the making of Kid A. The main problems facing the band as a whole, however, were due to the constant disagreements which arose between the members as to the musical style the album should be based on. The main tension was between Yorkeââ¬â¢s desire to inject electronic music into the bandââ¬â¢s style and the rest of the bandââ¬â¢s desire to remain with the guitar ââ¬Ërock-pop-alternativeââ¬â¢ style. As a result of the conglomerated problems, Yorke faced many difficulties while trying to write songs Nikita Nasonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18191508567231483393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593609465858003461.post-11057994889012793592019-11-18T22:15:00.001-08:002019-11-18T22:15:03.879-08:00Written assessment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 wordsWritten assessment - Essay Example In order to have children have their best learning experiences they should be able to see, hear and touch the different aspects of their learning. For this particular lesson, it is important for them to be able to listen to the instrument, see the instrument they are listening to and then hear music that includes these instruments. In this way students will have a richer idea of listening to music. By including a way for them to draw a picture and say what they think of the music on the worksheet, they are provided with an opportunity to understand music at a deeper level. Children in grades 4 and 5 are always busy and doing things. They have to have more than just sitting and listening to music or they get fidgety. By providing several things for them to do at once this becomes more entertaining and keeps their interest longer. By the 4th and 5th grade children are able to work in a group and they function well at certain things. They also can work individually using worksheets and most do well at following directions. Children are also using critical thinking skills and this is one of the reasons why I use the worksheet -- it allows them to use these skills as they listen to the music, decide on a picture and decide how the music makes them feel. This is a good way to help them sort out what they are hearing. Many students listen to music that is discouraging and damaging to them and usually this is music that is popular. By introducing them to more than one type of music, they have more to choose from and explore. It is the hope of the teacher that they will want to find other types of music at the library and then perhaps they will purchase it later. Music is one good way to help children improve their listening skills because they have to really listen to hear the specific instruments. If they are talking or are distracted in some way, they will miss the information. This also makes them learn to tune out Nikita Nasonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18191508567231483393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593609465858003461.post-55531593971191576962019-11-16T10:48:00.001-08:002019-11-16T10:48:08.736-08:00The Effect of Media on Young GirlsThe Effect of Media on Young Girls The Effect of Media on Young Girls One of the most sensitive stages of a human being are their youth, whilst growing up one is faced with numerous transitions that transform one into someone mature. Our society has been swamped by endless media around us coming in different formats, i.e. magazines, newspapers, TV, Internet, etc. Each one of these has managed to flood dominating messages that put oneââ¬â¢s self-image into question. Within the context of this essay, it examines the effect of media on young girls. The fact young girls are at a vulnerable phase they are most likely to be impacted by what they watch on TV, read in the magazines and get pumped by the current social media. Unfortunately the media has put a great deal of stress and pressure on the minds of sensitive young girls who are compelled to accomplish a so called ââ¬Ëperfect imageââ¬â¢. When we refer to the term ââ¬Ëideal imageââ¬â¢, it directly includes supermodels, models, singers, actresses and icons who seem to be the ideal of young girls. Media is clearly responsible for promoting fake images of models who undergo an airbrushed and edited image of themselves when presented in magazines. Furthermore, these supermodels undergo strict and dangerous diets where their health suffers to an extreme. There are issues of self-image which are seen to be the biggest concern. Within self-image it results in three destructive effects, namely; depression (physical and mental) and eating disorders (Schlegel, n.d) York (2012) exposes the shocking figures from 2011 at 16% highlights there has been a boom in eating disorders. One of the biggest increase was mainly girls who were aged from 10 to 15 up at 69% in 2011. It could further be elaborated that eating disorders have the highest morality rates of any mental illness which were accounted at 20%. Interestingly, the depiction of the so called ââ¬Ëidealââ¬â¢ body kinds portrayed by Western media has been perceived as a major factor in inseminating eating disorders. It can be highlighted how social media has rapidly promoting these diseases. Shockingly, the research points out eating disorders were becoming widespread just like a virus due to social networks, whereas pro-anorexic websites would offer tips, guidance and an online community was designed for unhealthy weight management. One fine example demonstrating the widespread search conducted online on eating disorders and losing weight unhealthily is the case of Pinterest who have take n an initiative to put an end to search words, i.e. ââ¬Ëthininspirationââ¬â¢ that would provide users a list of results which were linked to eating disorders. Pinterest offered users to read warnings that would refer to the dangers of eating disorders and how they werenââ¬â¢t a part of lifestyle choices but were simply a mental disorder which if they left untreated could possibly result in major health problems and even pose a major threat to oneââ¬â¢s life. One of the other social networks that is notorious with promoting self-consciousness is Facebook. Facebook has been pro-actively promoting ââ¬Ëself-consciousness as being an extremely important issue where body image and weight are center of attention. Maree (n.d) believes media has been compelling numerous youth to commit suicide, it has brought youth suicide to the front row where there has been a boom in youth depression that results in a high rate of suicide in the recent years. Maree refers to the statistics taken from the National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) back in 2011 which showed the suicide rates stood at four male to one female ratio. Furthermore, suicide amongst young girls was displayed in 2012 as a result of numerous tragic deaths. There were three major deaths that raised eye brows and outraged the public, the tragic deaths of Ciara Pugsley, Erin and Shannon Gallagher raised a very significant issue of why these deaths took place and scrutinizing the negative influence of media and promotion of self-image pushing these young souls to plunge to their own death. Their deaths resulted in organizations within the government along with the media instantly initiating work on fighting the lack of resources for the youth who were suffering from depression. It should be pointed youth depression has emerged due to numerous factors, where such a condition is simply complicated in nature. Self-esteem is said to be one of the main issues which emerge in youth depression. Unfortunat ely the media has been predominantly playing a negative role in promoting conflicting interest in itself also for the youth, where if bad exposure is restricted it can certainly make a major difference. The number of times the young girls view a super model, this makes them wonder if they could share a resemblance to their so called ââ¬Ëmedia idealââ¬â¢s and accomplish this by undergoing cruel diets at a tender age when their bodies are undergoing numerous kinds of changes. The fact the media is constantly flooding the TV channels, fashion magazines and social media with representing a so called ââ¬Ëperfect womanââ¬â¢, this results in the creation of mental and emotional issues, this specially refers to the inability to remain joyful in their very own body. As per the comments by a counsellor, such a depiction clearly delivers a very impractical body image in the media which can have an extremely serious and deep impact on susceptible woman than one imagines. Sanders (n.d) emphasizes how media marketing has simply depicted a very fake image of models, actresses and icons that becomes an impossible objective for young girls to accomplish. The fact the youth are highly influenced by celebrities and pick up the latest fashion, hair-style and lifestyle trends from their ideals, this results in a trend of being a copy-cat where one is compelled to imitate their ideals and feel a sense of dissatisfaction if they are unable to do so. If one takes into consideration how popular media has been progressively promoting a thinner and thinner body image as the so called ideal for women, this has become more like a competition for the youth where they feel it is necessary to maintain a thin image. Being thin for todayââ¬â¢s youth means being beautiful, here they are unable to distinguish between reality and what is digital editing in magazines, social media and online websites. Unfortunately, the youth are paying a heavy price at the expense of their health to be socially accepted by starving themselves on fad diets that will have a major side-effect on their health. In terms of self-confidence, the youth will feel out of place, lacking a sense of affinity and unable to confidently socialize if they do not fit the so called ideal criteria of being thin and beautiful. They feel their social group will reject them on basis of them being slightly fat or what is normal. There is this unpleasant bullying that comes into the picture where one is experiencing teasing from their counterparts on the basis of how they look like, i.e. fat. The fatter you are, the more unpleasant and disconnected you are from being a part of the popular group of girls. Heubeck (n.d) takes the example of American girls who are facing the burden of being model like thin which seems like a real aspiration for them, however this starts off at a very young age which is extremely disappointing. There are countless bombardments of TV adverts featuring models with perfect lips, body, hair-style and the entire attractive physical appearance that seems a must achieve for these young minds. Unfortunately these young girls seems to consider these celebrities as role models even if these role models have a cruel bad reputation. According to Renee Hobbs, EdD, Associate Professor of Communications at the Temple Univesity she found in her research the exposure an average teen gets to media is nearly 180 minutes with only 10 minutes of interaction with their parents on a daily basis. This view is shared by Elissa Gittes, MD- a pediatrician at the adolescent medicine at the Childrenââ¬â¢s Hospital of Pittsburgh, she believes young girls are obsessed with imitatin g the ideal image they watch in media, they end up taking harsh and desperate measures. There has been an increase in the number of young girls who comment on how unhappy they are with their body and are working obsessively hard to change this image of themselves. As per the research conducted by Nancy Signorielli from the Kaiser Foundation, Nancy discovered one in every three articles in leading teen girl magazines also consisted a key focus on physical appearance, where majority of the advertisements (reported at 50%) used an appeal to beauty to market and sell their products. Furthermore, the TV adverts and commercials which were targeted at female viewers depicted frequently were regularly watched by young girls where beauty was seen as the central theme for product appeal. When examining the figures on eating disorders, it points how 1,000 women died annually as a result of anorexia nervosa. Nearly, five percent of adult women and adolescent along with one percent of men were suffering from binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. When comparing the figures on men to women suffering from depression and eating disorders, it clearly demonstrates it is young girls who are most affected and suffer from depression and eatin g disorders (Mediaââ¬â¢s effect on body image, n.d) It can be concluded from the findings within this essay popular media is certainly responsible for influencing young girls in a negative way by making them self-conscious about looking perfect. There has been an artificial imagery of icons created, flashed and swamped in different mediums of media that has caught the eye and attention of young minds who take it in a positive manner. The fact more and more young girls are driven towards looking like their ââ¬Ërole modelsââ¬â¢ they take up unhealthy options to look physically perfect even if it means it is a life threatening one. The issue of self-image is an umbrella which entails issues of mental and physical depression along with eating-disorders that have multiplied and compelled young girls to commit suicide. More and more young girls are drawn to look perfect starting from as young as the age of 5. It is the responsibility of media, government, health organizations and parents to intervene and deviate these young girls from taking an extreme measure which would result in a complete chaos. There is a strong need to tackle this matter as the rapid flow of information available online and easily accessed by anyone at the click of a button, i.e. mobile device, tablet, etc., it is truly concerned as to how there is an endless amount of literature available that attracts more and more young minds to imitate their favorite celebrities, icons and become just like them. Governments and health organizations need to implement strict codes that would ban media from promoting an unrealistic picture of what is a perfect woman as these young minds are vulnerable and capable of believing what they see on TV. Parents should be actively involved in monitoring on the habits, patterns and changes in behaviors of their children. The fact we are living in a modern world has meant we are suffering greatly with a fabricated image of what is considered perfect by the media and what is truly perfect in the real world, which ob viously is a complete conflict. Schools and colleges should promote an awareness of accepting oneself rather hating oneââ¬â¢s own image. Successful media campaigns conducted like the one by Dove was an impressive and attention grabbing one which demonstrated how beauty in women is not limited to any form of perfection of being thin but rather accepting oneself the way they are. It truly celebrates natural beauty and promotes this image by featuring a group of women in different colors, sizes, heights and empowers female beauty in a natural way. There is a strong need for more and more media campaigns similar to this that should be created and promoted to wash away the wrong image depicted of perfection into the young minds of girls. This quote explains the whole book. It shows the people fighting for their lives from the many hardships they face. Also, it shows that there is ups and downs in life and sometimes facing the wrath that life gives us. The first hardship in the book is when the Joads are forced off their land. They have to overcome losing their home and basically their life. Also, the Joads can relate to many people because the bank took over their life. ?The bank is something more than,it?s the monster.? (33) This passage is very right because the bank takes over everything in everyone?s life. Next, the Joads had to become bigger than themselves. They had to drop their life and move to a different state. When they arrived in California they were not accepted for who they are. To them California is a whole new universe. They were taunted and called ?Okies.? But, even before that Grandma Joad died, leaving Mama Joad very depressed. Then being to poor to afford a funeral they had to just bury grandma in a random spot. The setting and time period would change the factor of the Joads life. First, if the Joads lived in this time period many of their hardships would be different. They wouldn?t have to live in a camp and the government would support them. When the Joads live in the camp they experience the better part of their journey, While at Camp Weedpatch they receive shelter and the essentials for every... ...he question of the book is when life gets hard stick through it and live as the best you can. The Joads answered the question. Life became hard for them and they stuck through it. At the very beginning they could have gave up but they didn?t. They had a plan and went through with it. That?s why the Joads are ro-models for the families struggling. Steinbeck?s quote ?My whole work drive has been aimed at making people understand each other.? This is also what the book is about. Understanding each other is the key to surviving. In conclusion, this book explains life itself. It shows life is not perfect and sometimes giving up everything is the way to survive. There is going to be hardships in life and there?s not. In the end, understand each other and never give up. Nikita Nasonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18191508567231483393noreply@blogger.com0
